Medford Township is currently serviced by one K9 team funded by a granted under the Department of Homeland Security Detect and Render Safe Program. The K9 unit is a specialized unit within the Patrol Division. The team is cross trained in Patrol Tactics and Explosive Detection. The unit is not assigned to a geographical beat within the Township and is available to respond to any emergency where a K9 team will be beneficial.  Our K9 team is also utilized by other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The K9 Team is used in a variety of situations.

  To search for hidden suspects

  To apprehend fleeing suspects

  To search for lost persons

  To search for evidence

  To protect the handler, other officers and citizens

  To clear vehicles after a high-risk felony stop

  To conduct public demonstrations

  To search for and detect the odor of explosives

  To be a visual deterrent for crime
