Criminal Investigation Bureau

The Medford Township Police Department utilizes detectives and specially
trained police officers to investigate and solve crimes, arrest violators, and assist
in the preparation of cases for prosecution.
The Criminal Investigative Bureau is supervised by a Detective Sergeant and
staffed by 5 full-time detectives.
In 2008, one detective was designated as the
full-time juvenile detective to handle the rising number of incidents involving
juveniles. There is at least one detective on duty from 7am until 10 pm with an
additional detective on call-back duty status 24 hours per day.
Trained and prepared to respond to a variety of cases, including but not limited
to, Homicides, Sexual Assaults, Assault, Burglary, Theft, White Collar Crime,
Arson, Narcotics and Missing Persons cases, the detectives work closely with
patrol officers to bring a resolution to each case.
In 2007 over 500 cases were
assigned to the Criminal Investigative Bureau.
Nationwide in 2007, law enforcement cleared 44.5 percent of violent crimes and
16.5 percent of property crimes by arrest or exceptional means.
In the Medford Township Criminal Investigative Bureau the general clearance
rate is 55.5%.
